Week 1: Welcome & Foundation
Theme: Building Trust, Fun, and Fundamentals
Objectives:
- Introduce core values and team rules
- Teach basic movement with the ball
- Create a fun and inclusive environment
Sample Activities:
- “Name & Dribble” icebreaker
- Dribbling maze with cones
- 3v3 fun scrimmage with coach guidance
- “Good teammate” huddles
Week 2: Dribbling & Ball Control
Theme: Confidence with the Ball
Objectives:
- Improve comfort with the ball at feet
- Develop directional control and decision-making
Sample Activities:
- Dribble relay races (all ages)
- Obstacle course with tight turns
- Red Light, Green Light (ages 4–6)
- Dribble + pass combo for older players
Week 3: Mental Toughness & Resilience
Theme: Bouncing Back & Focus
Objectives:
- Teach how to handle mistakes
- Build focus and perseverance
Sample Activities:
- “Try Again” drill (repeat skill until success)
- Breathing reset practice after mistakes
- Coaches model positive self-talk
- Scrimmages with shifting rules for adaptability
Week 4: Passing & Teamwork
Theme: Communication & Connection
Objectives:
- Learn basic passing technique
- Promote communication and teamwork
Sample Activities:
- Partner passing with targets
- Rondos
- Team passing chains with movement
- “Pass then cheer” drill
Week 5: Defending & Sportsmanship
Theme: Compete with Respect
Objectives:
- Teach defending posture and positioning
- Reinforce respect for opponents and rules
Sample Activities:
- 1v1 defense drills
- “Shadow defense” mirror games
- Scrimmage with sportsmanship shout-outs
- “Ref for a drill” – players call fouls
Week 6: Shooting & Goal-Setting
Theme: Aim with Purpose
Objectives:
- Improve shooting accuracy and power
- Introduce short-term goal setting
Sample Activities:
- Shooting at various targets
- Hit-the-cone or shoot-through-gate
- Player journals: “What do I want to improve?”
- Shot challenges with peer encouragement
Week 7: Leadership in Play
Theme: Take Initiative
Objectives:
- Encourage on-field leadership
- Build confidence through responsibility
Sample Activities:
- Assign “practice leaders”
- Peer-led warm-ups and cooldowns
- Players help organize teams or drills
- Team chat: What makes a good leader?
Week 8: Showcase & Celebration
Theme: Growth, Gratitude & Joy
Objectives:
- Reflect on progress
- Celebrate sportsmanship and development
Sample Activities:
- Mini-tournament with mixed-age teams
- Player awards (e.g., Most Improved, Best Teammate)
- Thank-you cards for parents/coaches
